Refractive Lens Exchange, RLE

Have you been told that you are not a candidate for LASIK because your glasses prescription or corneal characteristics fall outside of the treatable parameters for laser vision correction? And are you starting to struggle with the need for reading glasses (an eye condition known as Presbyopia)? If so, then a Refractive Lens Exchange (RLE) may be a solution that can work for you!

Laser vision correction treatments remove some amount of corneal tissue to reshape cornea in order to improve vision conditions such as nearsightedness and farsightedness.  An RLE procedure can accomplish many of the same goals without tissue removal or alteration of corneal shape, so an RLE can still be a viable vision correction option for those who do not qualify for LASIK.

RLE utilizes a similar surgical technique as cataract surgery to improve vision without glasses or contact lenses, making it possible to enhance your vision by replacing the natural lens inside of the eye with a biocompatible replacement lens. This replacement lens cannot be felt or seen, so the recovery is usually quite comfortable.

An RLE procedure has the enhanced ability of treating a greater prescription range of nearsightedness and farsightedness than LASIK or other laser vision corrections procedures. Depending on the choice of replacement lens selected, an RLE may also correct for astigmatism or presbyopia.

If you are looking to correct your vision, but laser eye surgery was not right for you, we may have a solution.  Schedule an evaluation at Cataract Vision Institute to learn about the option of a Refractive Lens Exchange.  Our mission is to help you see more clearly today!
